Using SermonAudio on the Amazon Echo

Using the Amazon Echo smart speaker is a great way to access SermonAudio content. Simply speak your commands out loud to the device, and it will begin playing your selected content. The name that Amazon has given to the Echo device is “Alexa,” and each command begins with speaking that name.

In order to use SermonAudio on the Echo, the device needs to have the SermonAudio “skill” added to it. Skills allow the Echo to retrieve data (in this case sermons) from apps and websites.

To add the SermonAudio skill to your Amazon echo, you need to say:

“Alexa, enable SermonAudio skill.”

From there, you can begin using other voice commands to access SermonAudio content.

Voice commands supported by the SermonAudio Skill:

  • “Alexa, Play SermonAudio!” – begins playing the 24/7 radio stream
  • “Alexa, ask SermonAudio to…
    • … play the featured sermon.”
    • … play the newest staff pick.”
    • … play the latest PowerClip.”
    • … what’s MyChurch?”
    • … set MyChurch to …”
    • … set MyChurch to Code ID 12345.”
    • … play the webcast from MyChurch.”
    • … play the newest sermon from MyChurch.”
    • … play the webcast from Code ID 12345.”
  • “Alexa, ask SermonAudio what can I say?” Alexa will play a list of possible commands for the SermonAudio skill. 
  • “Alexa, stop.” When the stop command is issued, the Echo will immediately cease what is currently playing. Also, if you say “Alexa,” the device will pause audio playback as it awaits another command. If none is issued, playback will resume after the pause. 

Setting up MyChurch on the Amazon Echo

To set up MyChurch on the Echo, you can use the actual church name, the minister’s name, the city name, or a combination. However, the most reliable way to set MyChurch is to use the 5-digit CHURCH CODE ID that’s assigned to every broadcaster (found on the church’s homepage). Here are some commands to set up MyChurch:
